How the technology works
Everyone talks about AI, but few understand what happens under the hood. We focus on the language model, the brain of today's AI systems, and build a solid mental model without the maths.
What happens under the hood
We build understanding step by step, from what a model is to why it behaves the way it does. Clear, without being shallow.

- 01What an AI model isModels that learn patterns from data, and the many types that handle text, image, audio and video.
- 02How a model is createdWhat training means, using the language model's journey from raw data to finished model as the example.
- 03What it takes to run oneWhat happens on every query and why it often demands enormous resources.
- 04Where models liveData centre, your own server or your own computer: resources decide where a model can run.
- 05The language model's conceptsTokens, temperature and context length, and why long conversations lose their edge.
- 06Strengths and limitsWhy models make things up, and how to relate to it.
Understand so you can judge
Once you understand how language models actually work, AI stops being magic and becomes something you can reason about. You see why they're sometimes wrong and what they're good at.
That makes you a better buyer, user and decision-maker, whatever tool you choose.
After the course you can
- Explain how a language model is created and used
- Understand tokens, context length and where different models can run
- Judge what AI can realistically do
Who the course suits
The course is for anyone who wants to genuinely understand AI, not just use it. The content is technical but requires no background in programming or maths.
This course suits
- Roles wanting to understand AI in depth
- Decision-makers who want to ask the right questions
- Anyone wanting a solid base before other AI courses
Prerequisites
- No prerequisites required
- No maths: everything is explained in words
FAQ about the course
No. The course is made to be understandable for everyone. We explain the technology with words and images, not formulas.
We keep it concrete and constantly tie it back to what it means in practice when you use AI tools.
The focus is on the language model since it's the brain of most AI systems, but we also cover model types for other modalities like image, audio and video.
Both work equally well: we come to you or run it remotely. As a lecture it also suits larger groups; for the workshop format, 10–15 people is optimal.
